Books for 2011

I mentioned in a previous post that one of my "goals" for 2011 is to read at least a book a month.
I've already finished this book...

Up next is this book...
I'm also planning on reading these books...
I bought this book for my my mom's birthday, we both love Pat Conroy!
Both my brother and my mom have read this book and highly recommend it. I'm very excited to read it!

I have a secret, I've only read one Nicholas Sparks book (The Lucky One).  I really enjoyed it, so I'm excited to read this.
Now I realize that there are thirteen books on this list. There will probably more that I read before the end of the year. But I figure this is a good starting point.  If any of y'all have any book recommendations please let me know! I love hearing what everyone is reading!

Well I'm going to go read!

Back Tracking & Menu Monday

Last week was extremely rough for Tripp's family.  A week ago today his beloved grandmother, "Ganny", went to be with the Lord. It has been a tough time for all of us, she was such an amazing woman and I feel so honored and blessed to have known her.

Kitchen

I decided that at each week I am going to tackle the job of cleaning and organizing a room from top to bottom for the beginning of the year.  Hopefully it will help me stay on top of my cleaning throughout the year.
This first week I tackled the kitchen, because it was the most "finished" room in the house (i.e. does not need pain or anything hung on the walls.) Let me tell you I cleaned that room from top to bottom.  I pulled out everything in the cabinets and drawers and scrubbed and organized.  I feel really accomplished whenever I set foot in there!

* Some background info-For those of you that don't know, when Tripp and I got married I moved into Tripp's house that he already had purchased.  It has been a hard journey for both of us as far as decorating.  Tripp's taste was more frat house and well mine is anything but.  Luckily we have compromised and he has really had a change of heart from what the house used to look like.

I didn't have any pictures of the whole kitchen before the wonderful transformation, but I think you will be able to get the idea.
Those blue walls were so painful to look at not to mention the Sturgis flag!
And now here it is now (clean and organized due to this week's task)!
The tray was a shower gift and the whole kitchen was some what styled around it!  I adore it!
 The make shift bar/office center.

Just some of our cookbooks.  I need to find a way to store more, because I've had my eye on some new ones!

So there you have it, our lovely kitchen.  We don't plan on staying in this house forever, but it suits (the three) of us just fine for now. :)
Next week I plan on tackling Nathan's room for my challenge!

Day 1 of Getting Organized and Menu Monday

All the Christmas decorations are down (minus the tree which we need to get a tote for). It always feels so sad once all the decoration are down, grant it there is a lot more room, but I miss all the lights and Christmas decoration hiding throughout the house.
In other news I started my organizing and mad cleaning spree today.  I decided to start in the kitchen, because it doesn't need any major changes (i.e. paint).  I switched some things around and cleaned out all the drawers, cleaned other the sink, organized all my cleaning supplies. I'm still not finished with it, but I love the since of accomplishment that it is making me feel.  I only hope I can stay this motivated to get the whole house into shape.

Not long ago I bought this book, needless to say I have yet to really utilize this book, but I WILL use it! I highly recommend it and I love how it breaks things down room by room.

I hope I will be able to update more on my cleaning/organizing endeavors.  I am always looking for tips and love to hear how everyone else organizes their lives so feel free to let me in on your secrets! ;)

MENU MONDAY
I'm not going to lie, towards the end of the year I slacked off on my meal planning.  But I am ready to take it on again.  It really helped our family and our budget.

Monday-Easy Pork Chops, Green Beans
Tuesday-Marinated Flank Steak, broccoli
Wednesday-Dinner at Church
Thursday- Chicken noodle soup (this is a new recipe that I have never tried before)
Friday-Homemade pizza
Saturday-Leftovers

A New Year

2010 was a year full of changes both good and bad. I've been thinking about the new year and all the changes that will hopefully come with it.  I am praying that I find a job for the up coming school year.  Being unemployed this past year has been hard for us, but on the up side we have learned to save and spend more wisely.  I have found a hobby in couponing and being frugal.
I do however believe that this was God's plan for me.  This has been a big year for everyone especially Nathan, he has moved and started Kindergarten which is a big deal when you're five years old. ;)  I feel like God wanted me to be more available for Nathan during this time of change.  I have gotten to take him to school pick him up, go to his school parties, and I have spent numerous hours playing Lego's and trains, and cuddling up on the couch with the sweetest little boy in the world.

Now onto those "goals" (resolution just sounds icky).
1.)  Become a more spiritual person.  I want to read the whole Bible this year, attend Sunday morning church more, and just get closer to God.
2.) Read a book a month.
3.) Become a healthier person.  This includes loosing weight, exercising, drinking water rather than coke, and making healthier choices when it comes to food.
4.) Be a better blogger.
5.) Get organized!

Here are some pictures from 2010.
 Tripp popped the question!

We added a new member to our family, Cupcakes!

Nathan enjoyed play ground time.
We were married surrounded by our friends and family.

 Trick or Treated

I am looking forward to see what God has in store for us for the New Year and I pray that he surrounds each of you with love and prosperity in the year to come.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
